Unity and Harmony
my artwork
Elizabeth Murray pieces.
In this art piece, we took the individual shapes from many different artists and attempted to make them fit together in a way that was harmonious and interesting. It was difficult to take all of the unique shapes and make them fit together well, but we were able to collaborate effectively and make it work. I feel like this piece is a good way to show harmony and unity between people. Each person made their own unique piece, just like each person has a unique personality in their own right. This piece shows that even with the differences between us all, with some work, we can all fit together and make something great and interesting by utilizing both our similarities and differences.
The Shot
in this piece, I started by thinking about things that interest me and that I like. A large part of my life revolves around basketball, so I decided to do a piece relating to that. In this piece I attempted to create the tension of "the big shot" using context within the piece. To do this I made the scoreboard that tells the viewer the situation stand out a bit to draw attention to it. I also emphasized the person taking the shot and attempted to kind of make everybody else fade into the background, since the piece is focusing primarily on one character. I attempted to get a fairly realistic view of the court, and I feel that overall, the piece turned out very well.
Floor Plans
In this project, I drew a floorplans of what my own personal physical therapy clinic would look like. I decided to do this because I figured it was time I did something actually somewhat relevant to the career field that I want to go into. I started by analyzing other floorplans to get a general idea of what I was working with, and then thought about what I would want my facilities to look like. I decided that my facilities would be big and open to provide plenty of space for both the patients and the workers. I really enjoyed this project because it gave me an opportunity to use some of the art principles we have used like unity and flow, and apply it to something that genuinely interests me.
In our art as activism project, I thought quite a bit about what I wanted to say and how I was going to say it. I thought about things that mean a lot to me, and since my health and fitness is something that means a lot to me, I figured that I could make something interesting concerning that. I really wanted to emphasize the idea that your own health is largely in your control and it mostly boils down to the choices that you make in your day to day life. I like the black and white contrast and the simplicity of the piece, and I feel that it largely turned out pretty well after I rounded out the figures and added just a bit of detail to them.
